Dr. Willie B. O'Neal began to pastor the former Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in 1977 with about 12 faithful members. Shortly after his appointment, he launched a series of inner city street revivals which resulted in a membership increase of about 75 members.
Though Pastor O'Neal was known as a "church boy" with a gift for knowing how to interact with people, it was not until 1980, as a result of him being filled with the Holy Spirit, that Mt. Canaan's membership began to flourish. Today, the membership has increased to 1500, and growing. The rapid growth of the ministry has been quite indicative of the incredible growth of the Pastor.
Though Pastor O'Neal has attended schools and seminaries, he attributes much of his foundational beliefs to the early teachings of such greats as Bill Gothard, and the Word of God. He believes that the Word of God is not only the final authority in healing the ills of society, but it is, and should be the final authority in governing the family.
Of course, Pastor O'Neal and his family have had their share of the economic pressures that plague the average American family, but it has been his obedience to Godly principles that has revolutionize his life, and the life of his family. Parallel to him repairing his own family, his life and teachings have had a profound effect on the growth of his members. Pastor O'Neal closely follows and teaches his convictions regarding building strong families, and operating the home debt-free.
His teaching ministry focuses primarily on Family Enrichment, Financial Freedom, and Character Development. He is a well sought-out conference, and revival speaker who puts a lot of love, and effort into building families through developing strong male leadership. His ministry spans the globe from North, Central and South America. He is also a great spiritual and community leader, as he covenants with a volume of pastors and other clergymen to help increase the posterity of the "local church" - our communities. Pastor O'Neal believes that our nation is only as strong as our families and communities.
